Exfoliation Explained
What is exfoliation? Exfoliation is the process that removes the dead skin cells from your outermost layer of skin. Almost anywhere on your body can receive the benefits from exfoliation.
Exfoliation involves the process of applying an exfoliant to your skin which helps physically or chemically remove the dead skin cells from the outermost layer of your skin. Exfoliating regularly can help to moisturize your dry and damaged skin cells and promote new cellular growth, giving you a clearer and brighter complexion.
Typically, the best exfoliations are done in a professional spa setting, but that doesn’t mean you can’t reap some of the benefits from exfoliating at home. In this article, we will be looking at the best and safest ways to exfoliate your skin at home.
How To Exfoliate Your Skin At Home
The first thing you should consider when trying to exfoliate your skin at home is your skin type. Each person’s skin is unique and will respond differently towards different types of exfoliants. Skin types can usually be put into one of four categories. These include oily, sensitive, dry, and combination.
With oily skin, you may want to try to exfoliate with papaya, honey, or yogurt. You may want to try exfoliating with turmeric or oatmeal with sensitive skin. You may want to try exfoliating with coffee, oatmeal, or sugar with dry skin. And finally, with combination skin, you may want to try exfoliating with papaya or lemon juice. If you are unsure which type of skin you have, try taking note, and if you need something specific, here are some excellent options.
Yogurt
To exfoliate using yogurt, you should try applying one tablespoon of plain yogurt on your face and brush it in using a circular motion. Then let it sit for about twenty minutes and rinse it off with water.
Honey
To exfoliate with honey, try taking a dime-sized helping and apply it to your face with your fingers using—circular motion.
Lemon Juice
To exfoliate using lemon juice, combine one tablespoon of lemon juice with one tablespoon of cane sugar to create an abrasive paste.
Sugar
To exfoliate using sugar, try taking one tablespoon of raw sugar and combining it with a tablespoon of your favorite natural oil to form a thick pasty-type substance. Then apply it using a circular motion and let it sit on your face between two and five minutes. Then rinse it off with water.
Oatmeal
To exfoliate using oatmeal, try combing one tablespoon of finely ground oats with one tablespoon of your favorite natural oil. Apply it to your face using a circular motion, and then let it sit for five minutes. Then when you’re done, rinse it off with water.
